Once the Wii came out, finding a game that wasn’t literal garbage was literally like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It was like the library was thoroughly curated to make sure the quality of the content at least passed a certain threshold. Most titles were killer, but even the shitty ones you could find some enjoyment in. Back during N64-GC era, for example, if you went to a blockbuster to rent a game, 8/10 whatever you grabbed was sufficient. Wii motion controls ranged from fairly bad to downright unplayable. There is not one instance where I can say I would prefer motion controls over just using a damn game pad. None has overly wowed me.Įdit: also f*** the Wiimote and forced motion controls. The first party games still are kinda meh though. The Switch is basically the same to me but the support for indies and unique games is far higher so I’m much less bored by it.
I wouldn’t buy the console just for them. Stuff like Trauma Center, No More Heroes, all the random interesting RPG titles held my interests but they’re all just basically niche titles. Similar to the Switch I did find some interesting titles in the wacky types of games but the core releases I just was completely disappointed by.

Most of the first party stuff I either didn’t play for a full play through because I just wasn’t having a good time at all (Galaxy, Prime 3, NSMB Wii, etc) OR I played enough to finish the games but just wasn’t overly impressed at all by them (things like Brawl, DKC Returns, Kirbys Epic Yarn, etc.) OR the games were just awful trash (looking specifically at Skyward goddamn Sword right now). Why I don’t like it is easy, the games just weren’t that good to me. I bailed on Nintendo after about a year of the Wii coming out. I tried hard to like it, I camped out for one right at release, but man was it a disappointment in every way. Special thanks to /u/jacobbarber for suplying some images for the CSS.
